Kane - Band biography & Members

KANE was formed in 1998 by Christian Kane & Steve Carlson. Both are accomplished songwriters and guitarists whose passion to create and share their special breed of "outlaw country" soon became a Los Angeles phenomenon. KANE has worked and played with some of the most talented and creative studio and session musicians in the business.

Band Picture

KANE has very quickly gathered a following unequaled by any L.A. band in their genre. KANE has received airplay from #1 LA country music station KZLA, been voted the winner of the 2005 Country Thunder Young Guns Contest, been voted one of L.A.'s 100 Hottest Unsigned Bands by industry magazine Music Connection, and Rock City News and E Media Wire Service describe KANE in one word: "Killer."
The band has played live shows to rave reviews at venues such as the Viper Room, King King, Ivar, Universal Citywalk, the Warner Bros. Sizzlin’ Country fundraiser and around the Southern California area. They have also performed in such varying locales as North Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma, Nashville, and most recently Chicago, Tampa, London, and Florence, Arizona on the main stage at Country Thunder USA. Despite somewhat limited touring, KANE’s self-released debut CD has sold over 4,500 copies in the US, with almost half those copies selling in countries as far away as Malaysia, Germany, Australia and Brazil.

Christian and Steve performing

Recent trips to Nashville to hone the band’s songwriting skills have peaked the interest of several high-level industry executives and labels. These visits have also allowed them the opportunity to work with such masters as Billy Barnett, Kent Blazy, Blair Daly, Brett James and Troy Verges, Jeremy Stover, Tommy Lee James, Clay Mills and Keith Follese. Christian’s songwriting talents were further recognized when in 2004 EMI Nashville signed him to a publishing deal. Such a promising response from the music community foretells of great things for KANE. KANE continues to write and record for EMI in Nashville, LA and wherever they can in anticipation of shopping the right label deal.

The (former) Bandmembers:

Craig Eastman

Craig Eastman started asking his mother for a fiddle when he was three years old. Although his family wasn't musical he grew up in Wichita Falls Texas listening to great swing fiddlers, and it was infectious. Craig finally got his hands on a fiddle when he was six, and he was off and running. His family moved from Texas to Tennessee, Vermont, and then Massachusetts. Craig thrived on each region's traditional fiddling styles. At thirteen he won the New England Fiddle Championship, a contest open to professional fiddlers of all ages in front of an audience of 40,000.
Craig moved to Austin and his interest in improvisational music flourished as he continued to hone his unconventional musical style playing both electric and acoustic violin, as well as mandolin, dobro, lap steel, viola, guitar, banjo, Bass, Ukulele and gimbre in bands covering a diversity of contemporary and traditional styles from Bluegrass to Blues, Celtic, Rock, Reggae, Jazz and Classical. His remarkable skill and diversity established Craig as a top LA session player specializing in playing virtually any stringed instrument in any musical style.
Craig composes, and records soundtracks for films, television, and albums with renowned composers and producers such as Hans Zimmer, Glyn Johns, Eric Valentine, Vandyke Parks, Harry Gregson-Williams, as well as recording for the many artists who call on his unique musical talents for their own records. Some of the artists Craig has worked with include: Ray Charles, Dr. John, Shawn Colvin, Bonnie Raitt, Randy Travis, Bryan Adams, John Hiatt, Don Henley, Nigel Olsson, Davey Johnstone, Iris Dement, Wendy & Lisa, Marcus Miller, Gary Allen, Bill Monroe, Chris Smither, Bill Morrissey, and Ferron.

Ted Russell Kamp

Ted Russell Kamp. Born and raised on the outskirts of New York City. He's now living in L.A. playing with KANE, Shooter Jennings, & Union Pacific. He's interested in the line where American Roots music meets modern pop - somewhere between Chicago electric blues of the '50's, Nashville in the '60's, and Tulsa in the '70's, and L.A. today. (think of Sonny Boy Williamson, Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, and Steve Carlson to help drive home the idea behind each of the eras). He has played jazz, blues, jump, country, (and western), rock, ska, and soul music since '93 when he became a professional musician. Other artists Teddy has worked with: Easy Big Fella, Ponticello, Marna Larsen, Barney McClure, Howard Armstrong, Flat Top Tom and his Jumpcats, Kevin Banford and the Bakersfield Boys, The Better Days, Circe Link, Robin Wiley.

Melissa Reiner

Melissa Elena Reiner is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, where she studied with Shirley Givens and Earl Carlyss of the Juilliard String Quartet. Before the age of 18 she had toured the former Soviet Union, Romania, Spain, France & Italy as a violinist and vocalist, and she also spent 3 summers studying with Dorothy Delay (of the Juilliard School) at the Aspen Music Festival. She continues to perform internationally, most recently in Japan as a principal member of the Percy Faith Orchestra. As a Los Angeles freelance musician, Melissa has appeared on numerous tv shows and videos, including the Grammy Awards, the Tonight Show, the MTV Janet Jackson Icon Awards, the Blockbuster Entertainment Awards, and the Radio Music Awards in Las Vegas. She was also featured in the "Departures" exhibit at the J. Paul Getty Museum of Art. She has recorded and performed with a wide range of artists, including David Lee Roth, NSYNC, Shaggy, Destiny's Child, the Backstreet Boys, Mariah Carey, Brian McKnight, Better than Ezra, & Dishwalla, and she is thrilled to add KANE to that list. She is a native of San Francisco.
