Panel 2 – Steve and Christian… a short one:

As the other panels had been starting later than scheduled Christian and Steve turned up later as well. They looked hot as usual and Chris had a bottle of beer with him though I realised after a few minutes that he was not drinking. He did his chewing tobacco and spitting thing again. We cheered as they sat down in their armchairs. Just a moment later Christian got up again and picked up two bottles of beer and a glass with some red stuff in that a steward brought for them. He came back, placing it all on the table and grinning. The red stuff turned out to be tomato juice. And now guess what.

Christian sat down again, grinning even more as he looked at the audience and asked us, if we knew what red beer was. Nobody knew so he told us, picking up the glass and pouring the tomato juice into their beers. “Well you know. Red beer is like this. You take tomato juice and pour it into your beer…” The whole audience made sounds of disgust and surprise as he kept talking, explaining that red beer was the best thing to drink if you had a hangover. Okay guys. Did party a bit too much last night, huh? To show us that they really both were hungover, Steve suddenly got up and moved one of the spotlight to the side so it wouldn’t shine right at him anymore. Christian was still going on about the red beer. “Others swallow down some painkillers with water, in Texas we drink beer to fight a hangover. You should try it.” Yeah… sure man!

Finally the question and answer part started. The first question asked was – oh what a surprise – again about Lindsey’s death and how Christian felt about it. The whole audience except the girl asking the question, gave some loud sighs and gnarls as Christian rolled his eyes, gnarling too, shaking his head and with a nearly angry voice replied to the question. He seemed rather bored and did not forget to tell her off in some way, starting his answer with “As my friends over here know pretty well, I wasn’t happy about it at all! I hated it.” Uh! Guys, we are his friends. Wohooow! He then was telling us that Joss Whedon actually had wanted to kill him several times and he always got out of it in some way. Well except that last time where Joss finally got what he wanted. And like Chris… I hate it as well!

A question about the new CD came up and when it would finally be out. Christian had to tell us that unfortunately the new Album wouldn’t be out before January next year but they planned to release a single in Autumn. Of course this was bad news for us, but the boys explained that it was really good for them as the record label didn’t want to throw just another CD on the market and done it is, they really wanted to work with KANE and get the best out of them. Also they didn’t want to interfere with other releases so that the moment the new album would be released it was really that album rather than that one and two others from Musicians that already have a name so people would rather buy those instead of music they didn’t know yet.

Some good news though: Christian told us there would be a musicvideo for the single. That’s what the contract says and damn it, that’s a nice perspective and helps with the waiting and the patience thingy.

Someone asked Christian what he would rather want to do if he had to chose between acting and his music. It took him quite a while as he admitted that he never had thought about it and that he couldn’t possibly chose one over the other. He said that he loves doing both of them and giving one up wouldn’t be him. He thanked for the question though and considered it a good one.

The next question that came up was about his job as a co-producer on Death Walks the Streets and if he wanted to do more different jobs besides acting and song writing/singing. Christian took some time to answer this question. He explained that he would never want to be a director or scriptwriter, going back to the first panel he had together with J who told us that he had written and directed a short movie. That was not the sort of job Christian wanted to do. He loved however producing stuff. Producing a movie, producing CDs. That would be more like the thing he wanted to do. He was very enthusiastic about that and seemed to be rather happy to be the co-producer on Death Walks the Streets.

Both of them were asked which song from the Eagles they liked best. Christian decided on “Hotel California” while unfortunately I can’t remember what Steve’s choice was. Of course the music question wasn’t finished with that. On it went with Johnny Cash. Both of them liked him, but I cannot recall what songs they named as their favourites. Next was the Beatles and again I failed to write down the titles they named. But I remember that Steve was going on about having a favourite song from Johnny Cash but he couldn’t remember the name and they should please name a few songs so maybe it would come to his mind. They did, named the big hits like Folsom Prison Blues, Walk the Line, Ring of Fire and so on. At some point Christian interrupted the song naming, saying that for Steve it certainly couldn’t be one of the great hits. Steve always used to pick the less famous songs.

One girl told Christian that she was planning on going into acting and wanted to attend some acting school. She asked if he could give her any hints and tips on the whole matter. Well, Christian really jumped on that one. He told her several times to be true to herself and not believe everything the teachers said and as long as she had experienced sadness, love, hate and all the other feelings in her live it didn’t matter what they were telling her about how to act those things for as long as she held on to those feelings and be true to herself it would always come out right. He admitted that it was necessary, though to attend an acting school just to get your foot in the door to acting but that she musn’t forget who she was. He also wished her good luck and the very best for her future.
That was really sweet and I loved his answer a lot.

Steve by the way being asked only a few questions seemed a little bored and at some point he got up again and turned another spot light away from his face. We laughed lots about that.

At least one question was asked to Steve in particular. It was about his short appearance in Keep your Distance and the question was if he would be ready to do more acting.

Unfortunately, Steve shook his head on that one. He looked at Christian and said in a somewhat admiring way: “I don’t know how Christian does it. I mean it’s just so much sitting around and waiting. I couldn’t do that.” He then told us that he also had a scene in Just married where he played I believe the brides cousin. Everybody loved the scene but he got cut out in the end. Damn it! Seriously, guys… anybody watched keep your distance or the new musicvideo Steve did?? I would LOVE to watch a whole movie with him as the main character… you reckon we can change his mind?!

There was nobody waiting at the microphones and Christian and Steve asked if there were any more questions. As nobody answered immediately they more or less jumped up and left the stage, leaving us behind rather puzzled. As we had a look in our programs, though, we understood their strange behaviour. Christian and Steve had been double booked. As the panel had started fairly late it was way past 2pm and both of them were already meant to sit in the big room for the autograph session.
So who could be angry that they left that quick?!
